Note (6 October 2022)
Following a request to review this site for listing an assessment was carried out by HES Designations, which found that the building does not meet the criteria of special architectural or historic interest. The decision was taken not to list the building (2022).
Tollcross YMCA was designed in 1934 by the Glasgow-based architect John Easton.
The front elevation has a central doorway that gives access to the YMCA hall and rooms on the first floor. There is a stained-glass window above the entrance door. This depicts the YMCA World Alliance logo, which has been in use by the association since 1881. Internally some of the 1930s interior scheme is retained in the timber-panelled board room with leather seating and World YMCA logo on the chairs.
The hall was designed in an Art Deco style by Glasgow-based architect John Easton (1898-1977) in 1934.
The architect John Easton practiced principally in Glasgow and Ayrshire and also designed Shawfield Racing Stadium in 1936 and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in Ayr (1962) and Kilmarnock (1963).
The Young Men's Christian Association was founded in 1844 in London and by 1876 there were 62 associations in Scotland.
