Activities

Field Visit (17 August 2022)

Sewage from the western part of the battery was deposited 62m beyond the low tide limit of Dalgety Bay by a 7in diameter cast iron pipe that was constructed in 9ft lengths and joined at the flanged ends by nuts and bolts. Only a short length of this pipe remains in situ and can be seen at the top of the beach where a short length remains supported on concrete supports, the pipe being held in place by a metal strap. Broken pieces of pipe are visible in the rocky inter tidal zone. The line of the pipe is depicted on a 1918 Ordnance Survey plan.

Visited by HES Archaeological Survey (J. Sherriff), 17 August 2022.
