Airborne Laser Scanning Interpretation (16 February 2022)

NM71SW 77 74368 10106

Formerly recorded under NM71NW 15

A small farmstead that comprises a building with an associated garden or enclosure is depicted in this location on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire, sheet cxxi, 1880) and is presumably incorporated in the present structure.

An estate map of the area dated 1847 (NRS, RHP571) depicts what is probably the same building with the annotation ‘Schoolhouse’. Given the lack of any other candidate for a school on that map, this presumably indicates that a school was run from the building at that time before moving to NM71SW 23 and eventually to a purpose built home at NM 74274 10505.
