Field Visit (30 March 2022)

NM71SW 56 74210 11363

The remains of this possible hut circle (Braithwaite 2021 No. 44) are situated 210m NE of Upper Ardlarach farmstead (NM71SW 129) in an area of rough ground now heavily poached by cattle and rush infested. The slope here falls gently to the S and the site has been made level with a low apron along the SSE arc within which are the remains of a slightly oval hut circle that measures 11.2m from N to S by 10.8m transversely over a wall composed of large edge-set boulders and reduced to about 1.5m in thickness and only 0.2m in height. No entrance was visible.

A line of boulders running from NNW to SSE for about 20m, just 4m to the W of the hut circle, may be part of an associated enclosure.
