Activities

Field Visit (31 March 2022)

NM71SE 68 75601 12236

This dun is situated on a relatively level terrace on the wooded slopes that shroud the W side of Ardinamir Bay. Roughly oval on plan the interior measures about 9m from N to S by at least 7.5m from E to W where the line is obscured by hillwash and overgrowth. The stony bank has spread up to 4.2m in thickness at the NE and up to 1m in external height. No facing stones were visible on the date of visit, but the entrance was probably at the S where a deflation in the bank measures 2.2m in width.

The interior of the dun is overgrown and covered with fallen debris but some of the scatter of rubble on the W side appears to be field clearance. On the SE side of the interior the bank has been pulled back to create a crude rectangular structure, possibly a shooting butt overlooking the bay, that measures 3.2m from NE to SW by at least 1.5m internally.
