NO99SW 11 91163 94023

Location formerly entered as NO 9117 9405.

(Location cited as NO 912 93). This viaduct is of generally similar form to that at Muchalls Mill (NO989SE 35); plate girders (formerly wooden trusses) supported on masonry piers.

J R Hume 1977.

This viaduct carries the Perth-Kannaber Junction- Aberdeen (main) line of the former Caledonian Rly. across the valley of the Burn of Elsick immediately N of Newtonhill. It remains in regular use by passenger traffic, as this portion of the line forms part of the Dundee-Aberdeen extension portion of the East Coast Main Line.

The location assigned to this record indicates the centre of the structure. The available (GIS) map evidence indicates that is extends from NJ c. 91146 93971 to NJ c. 91179 94071, and is approached over major embankments at each end.
