This former Coastguard Lookout, now a bothy, is situated immediately W of the summit of Meall Tuath (116m) which overlooks the Hunish peninsula over steep cliffs at the N tip of Skye. It was presumably attached to the Coast Guard Station 2km to the S at Duntulm (NG 41568 74211), listed in the Valuation Roll for Inverness (Kilmuir) in 1930-1 and operated by HM Board of Trade (Coast Watching Department).

A roofed building annotated ‘CG Lookout’ and an adjacent ‘Pole’ to the SE are depicted on the 1966 edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sheet NG47NW).

The building fell out of use in the 1970s. It was restored by the Mountain Bothies Association in 2007 and dedicated to David Brown, a longstanding member.

A roofed building annotated ‘The Lookout (Bothy)’ is depicted on the current edition of the OS (GIS) Mastermap.
