Field Visit (20 February 2020)
This grass- and rush-grown building platform, which is cut back into the steep N-facing slope 4m N of the barracks (NH86NW 11.42), formed part of the infrastructure introduced to the battery by the Admiralty in the First World War. It is rectangular on plan and measures 5.4m from NW to SE by 2.9m transversely. Access was possibly by means of an entrance facing on to the path that ran down from the latrine (NH86NW 11.40) to the searchlight battery (NH86NW 11.18) below.
The building is not shown on a plan of the battery in the Fort Record Book held in the National Archives at Kew (WO78/5192).
