Location Notes: This panel is located on a SE-sloping hillside in an area of rough grazing, c. 30m to the W of the highest point within a narrow strip of forestry, and c. 80m to the N of the access gate and track leading into the farm and to a radio tower to the W. Prieston 3 is c. 60m to the NNW of Prieston 1 and c. 6m W of Prieston 2. There are open views towards Dundee to the ESE and to the sea/coast in the E. The area is overlooked by hills to the SW and W.
Panel Notes: A roughly square panel measuring 0.9m x 0.8m and rising to a maximum height of 0.1m. The carved surface slopes gently to the W. The rock type is a hard, fine-grained sandstone, and there are some plough mark scratches visible on the rock surface. The panel is carved with 6 large and 4 small (standard) cupmarks. Of the large cups, two are plain, one has a partial ring and is beside another with a ring and two possible tails extending to the E. The other two cups are connected by grooves, rings, and tails; one has a large complete ring with a tail extending to the N and terminating at a smaller cup, and the other has a keyhole motif and long tail which curves to join the small cup and end of the other large cup, before extending down the slope. The other three small cupmarks are plain, but one has a curving tail extending to the W. There are very clear peck marks in motifs on the N side of the panel.
This panel was originally grouped with a hut circle under an existing ID (Canmore ID: 281434, ScRAP ID: 795), but has now been separated into its own record.
