Location Notes: Located at the top of a knoll on the W edge of a pastoral field, c. 54m to the SE of the sheep fank in the NW corner of the same field. The panel is located at the highest point of the knoll on an outcrop 15m to the E of the stone dyke which runs N-S at the W edge of the field. Approximately 50m to the S of the panel there is a gate which leads into the field to the W. The panel is located on one of the highest spots in the immediate landscape and has extensive views to the SW. The grid reference recorded at time of survey was given is accurate to 1.1m.
This panel matches the description of Van Hoek's Cairnholy 7 which has been recorded as untraceable since at least 1915. There is a cast in the care and collection of National Museums Scotland which could be used to confirm if this is the same panel.
Panel Notes: A long, narrow, flat panel running approximately E-W measuring 4.4m by 0.4m in size and up to 1.1m in height. The panel has been carved with two parallel lines of cups that come in pairs, with up to 15 cups in total. There are possible tool marks in the most NE cup. There are multiple natural feature, solution holes on the NW, vertical face of the rock.
