Archaeology Notes

NO87NW 16 816 788.

Little Barras, Drumlithie. Celt of greenstone, adze-shaped, flat on one side, convex on the other, 5 1/4" in length, 2" in breadth across the cutting face, tapering to 1 1/4" at the butt end which is brought to a rounded edge similar to the other. The form is quite unusual in Scotland, the only other example in the collection being the fine fine flint celt found at Ferry Brae, Aberdeenshire (Slains parish) (AF 267).

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1884

Mentioned as similar to the celt from Ferny Brae and a polished adze from west Linton, Peebles in a notice of the purchase of the latter by the Museum of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1900.
