Activities

Field Visit (March 1984)

NO79NE 32 7821 9590.

This cairn is situated with a field-system and cairnfield (NO79NE 28) about 700m SW of Upper Balfour farmhouse. It measures 9.2m in diameter by 0.6m in height and there is a broad hollow in the centre; several possible kerbstones are visible. A mound of stones piled against the W side of the cairn is either associated with the surrounding cairnfield, or material dug out of the hollow at the centre of the cairn.

RCAHMS 1984, Visited March 1984.

Measured Survey (6 March 1984)

RCAHMS undertook a 1:2500 plan of the cairns, hut circle and field system at Upper Balfour in 1983. The field survey drawing was redrawn in ink.
