Watching Brief (22 January 2018 - 2 March 2018)
HY 34138 13261 (Finstown) – HY 23188 09105 – HY 28216 10968 (Stenness) A watching brief was undertaken, 22 January – 2 March 2018, during ground investigation works for a proposed substation and a cable route (Finstown to Stromness). A total of 76 trial pits and 2 boreholes were monitored.
HY 23637 08566 In Test pit 53, some thin fragments of flagstone of varying size were recovered from a depth of c1m. The soil round the stones contained charcoal and occasional limpet shells. As this material could be part of an archaeological deposit the trench was terminated and backfilled.
