Activities

Field Visit (26 March 2019)

Nothing can now be seen of a small building introduced as part of the infrastructure of the battery by the Admiralty in World War I, which was situated N of the Canteen & Offices (NH86NW 22.9) and W of the security fence (NH86NW 9.51) surrounding Site No.1. It was rectangular on plan, oriented from E to W and is labelled ‘Lamp Room’ on a sketch map of the battery entitled ‘Telephone Circuits’, dated 7 May 1919, held by the National Archives at Kew (ADM 7/942). In addition, the building is depicted from the NW in a photograph taken on 28 March 1913 during the construction of the battery (SC1116243).

Visited by HES Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK) 26 March 2019.
