Archaeological Evaluation (13 February 2019)
Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd undertook a programme of archaeological trial trenching works on land north of Swinwood Farm, Reston, Berwickshire. The work was required to help fulfil a planning condition prior to development on site.
A total of 8 trenches were excavated across the development footprint, to achieve a 10% evaluation of site. No archaeological features were found during the works but an alluvial subsoil was exposed and a geological paleochannel ran east-west through one of the trenches. Although area around Swinwood Farm has a high density of archaeological features the development itself is situated in a sterile alluvial zone.
