Note (1980)

Brae of Breck, North Ronaldsay HY 7678 5521 HY75NE (M)

An allegedly natural knoll, in which a chamber was discovered, is almost certainly a settlement tell associated with the abandoned farmstead of Breck.

RCAHMS 1980

(OR 226)

Orkney Smr Note

A natural knoll. Some form of chamber was discovered on

the summit many years ago, but there is now no trace of it.

OS visit Jul 70.

The chamber was underneath the coastguard lookout hut.

This knoll looks like a typical settltment mound or farm

tell, with many irregularities suggesting structures visible

amid grass and nettles, related to the abandoned farmstead of

Breck.

Information from Orkney SMR (RGL) Jul 79.

It is traditionally reported that on site of CG lookout, a

man poked an oar down between stones, let go, and lost it.
