Field Visit (28 March 2019)
Nothing is now visible of a building that is indicated on a sketch map of the battery in the Fort Record Book held by the National Archives at Kew (ADM 7/942). An L-shaped battered and mortared wall of random rubble that has been set into the E side of the substantial bund that forms the front of the engine-house pit (NH86NW 9.16) may have marked the W end and NW corner of the platform on which the building stood. The wall measures 2.65m from NNE to SSW by 1.7m from E to W by up to 0.7m in thickness and 2.1m in height.
Visited by HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK, KLG), 28 March 2019.
