Desk Based Assessment (18 March 2019 - 1 April 2019)
The asset consists of the former location of a Coal Pit that is first annotated and depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1859. The pit is shown as a small square building with a small section of railway connecting it to the Ballochney Railway Line. It can also be assessed with this early depiction that the pit may have been associated with Holehills Cottage, due to its close proximity. The asset is no longer depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1897, which may suggest that the pit had stopped production by this date. The area is now occupied by open ground.
