Desk Based Assessment (18 March 2019 - 1 April 2019)
The asset consists of the former location of an Old Coal Pit that is first annotated and depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1859. The coal pit is accompanied by two small square structures set within a large circular enclosure. The mine was in close proximity to the Ballochney Railway Line. A depiction of the area on the Ordnance Survey map of 1897 suggests the mine had closed as it is no longer annotated. The area is now occupied by a large park and recreation area for the adjoining modern housing estate.
