Evidence for discovery: found in 1857 in Inchbrayock graveyard and transferred to Montrose Museum in 1859.
Present condition: broken and worn.
Description
This is the upper portion of a cross-slab, carved in relief and edged with a plain flatband moulding on both sides. The cross on face A is framed by a roll moulding and has rectangular terminals and a central square, the whole filled with loose two-strand interlace. On either side of the upper arm is a winged human figure with a bird head facing left. The left-hand figure has a hooked beak, while that on the right has a long straight beak. Face C bears a horse-rider trotting to the left, with a shield, sword and possibly a dagger. Beneath the horse are traces of a deer with antlers.
Date range: ninth century.

Nos. 2 This was found in the vicinity of St Braoch's Church (NO75NW 2) along with a Pictish symbol stone Class 2 (NO75NW 2.1) and cross-slab (NO75NW 2.3). Inchbrayock 2 is now in Montrose Museum (NO 7162 5771).
