This mansion, which has been demolished, is said by Gibb to have been an early keep, with turrets and embrasured battlements, with later additions. The Ordnance Survey Name Book (ONB, 1864), however, says it was built about 1771, from which period the Mains of Blackhall also date (HBD list No. 1).
A Gibb 1884; Name Book 1864.
Blackhall, an 18th - 19th century, mansion was demolished c. 1947 and apart from the garden wall, no trace survives. A modern bungalow now stands on the site. It is thought locally that an earlier castle had occupied the site before the 1771 structure, but no definite information could be obtained.
Mains of Blackhall is now derelict.
Visited by OS (R L) 19 April 1972.
