Watching Brief (19 July 2016 - 16 September 2016)
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during ground investigations works associated with the proposed Beauly to Dundonnell power line. The proposed route starts at the Beauly Convertor station (NGR NH 505 447) then closely follows the route of the A835 trunk road from the village of Garve (NGR NH 398 607) to Braemore Junction (NH 210 776), then follows the A832 to Dundonnell (NH 088 881) and on to Mungasdale (NG 965 931). The route sits between 5 and 328 m AOD. The watching brief monitored the excavation of fortyfour machine excavated trial pits and 4 boreholes. No archaeological deposits or artefacts were revealed.

Field Visit (April 2017)
CFA Archaeology Ltd assessed the likely effects of the proposed Beauly to Keith 132kV OHL reconductoring project on archaeology and cultural heritage (hereafter ‘heritage assets’). The results of a desk-based assessment, augmented by targeted field visits to heritage assets within a 500 m study corridor centred on the existing OHL, which has formed the study area.
Targeted field visits were made in April 2017 to ten cultural heritage assets that lie within 50 m of the existing OHL, where either the current baseline condition was uncertain or where the site was considered to be particularly sensitive.
Out of the 292 heritage assets identified within the study area there is potential for the proposed development to directly impact 91 heritage assets.
