Gate post within light woodland within New Lanark WHS, connected to stone bridge crossing small stream. c. 0.76m / 0.94m x 0.76m / 0.94m x 2.26m (height). Ashlar (with chisel marks) on all sides, except W (where only at edges). Square in plan of 0.76m x 0.76m x 0.76m x 0.76m (with wider 'lintel of 0.89m. Height = 2.26m. Metal fixings on E side; connected to wall/bridge superstructure on W. Inc. mason's mark/level on E. High-quality gatepost (missing partner to E), possibly linked to toll gate and poss. (Site 55) toll booth structure.
