(NO 621 635) Site of Battle between the Earls of Crawford and Huntly AD 1452 (Nat)
OS 6" map, (1959)
In 1452 a Royal army under the Earl of Huntly defeated the Lindsays kinsmen and followers of the Earl of Crawford, at Brechin (Mackie 1962). (Earl of Crawford not personally involved according to Mackie.)
Campbell (1881) gives the date as the 18th May and says the site of the battle has since been named Huntly Hill (NO 626 635: but old Huntlyhill Cottages occur at NO 6190 6347 very near the published site)
R L Mackie 1962; J A Campbell 1881.
The standing stone (NO66SW 2) is locally believed to mark the site of the battle; otherwise no further information
