Field Visit (1 June 2008 - 1 September 2009)
The remains of a brick and concrete railway platform were recorded
during the field survey together with the remains of a concrete hanger-type
building at the side of the railway.
Information from OASIS ID: cfaarcha1-74267 (G Mudie) 2009
Note (30 July 2018)
A concrete hanger-type building was recorded beside a mineral railway by a field survey in advance of open cast mining. Examination of modern aerial photographs showed that the building was surrounded by berms. On a vertical RAF air photograph 106G/Scot/UK/0090 Frame: 3102 (flown 12 May 1946) shows the presence of four large rectangular buildings surrounded by berms and dissected by a railway line at NS 58899 12917, NS 58548 13263, NS 59140 13117 and NS 59088 13022. An additional building is located between the two rectangular building at NS 59115 13071. The same image shows a stockpile of materials located next to a loading platform identified during the survey at NS 58650 12849 and also to the E of the industrial building at NS 58955 13375. At the entrance to, and on either side of the access road to the industrial building are what may be a guard house (NS 59065 13410). It may be that the industrial building was used for storage or maintenance when the ammunition depot was operational.
