Archaeology Notes

NO64SW 27 6435 4108.

In October 1982, an exploratory trench was laid out and excavated to a depth of approximately 3' 3" (1m) on garden ground to the rear of 189-191 High Street. This site lies just within the precinct wall of the Abbey (NO64SW 18). The excavation provided limited information, recording extensive root disturbance by vegetation, and some evidence of arable farming, which had led to the partial destruction of an undated burial. A medieval bronze ewer was recovered from the area of root disturbance.
