(HU 2598 5727) Stone Cists found A.D. 1873. (TI)

OS 6" map, Shetland, 2nd ed., (1900)

Two stone cists, a number of stone battle axe heads and various other stone implements, (the use of which is unknown) were found..... by the tenant Peter Irvine when improving the ground for cultivation in 1873.(Name Book 1878).

The knoll on which they were found is now under cultivation.

Stone Cists, Engamoor.

The O.S. map has a note to the effect that in 1873 "Stone Cists" were found about 80 yds. N.N.E. of the "burnt mound" at Engamoor (No. 1451). The knoll on which they were discovered is now under cultivation.
