Field Visit (29 July 2017)
This milestone stands on the N verge of the minor road (South Crieff Road) that links Crieff, 3 miles to the E, and Comrie 4 miles to the W. The stone, which is depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perth and Clackmannan 1901, Sheet XCV.SW), is pentagonal on plan, with two dressed faces (0.23m broad) looking on to the road and three rear faces, each 0.16m broad. The stone stands 0.2m high and the two main faces bear traces of white paint. There is a mason’s mark on the top of the stone which replaced another (NN82SW 80) that is shown on the 1st edition of the map standing about 430m along the road to the W. However, it is not clear whether the existing stone was moved to this new location or a new one erected.
