Activities

Field Visit (23 July 2017)

This drinking fountain stands on the S side of the Bridge of Earn Road opposite the SE end of Granco Street, on the SE edge of Dunning. There is no inscription on the fountain but it is not depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map and therefore must be later that 1900 in date. A bronze fitment, possibly for a tap, above a cast iron lion’s head spout bears the legend ‘J McEwan, Plumber, Auchterarder’. Iron hoops, one to either side of this fitment, probably once secured the chains that would have been attached to (now missing) drinking cups.

Visited by HES Survey and Recording (JRS), 23 July 2017.
