Activities

Field Visit (18 June 2017)

This bridge, which carries the former turnpike road from Perth to Forfar via Coupar Angus, crosses the St Martins Burn immediately N of the former smithy (NO13SE 37). Largely of random rubble construction, it comprises a single arch composed of roughly-hewn voussoirs, the keystone on the SE side bearing the date 1774. The decking measures 4.3m in breadth between parapets up to 0.5m in height and 0.3m in thickness, coped with dressed sandstone blocks. The arch has been strengthened in recent times by the addition of a 0.15m thick lining of concrete.

Visited by HES Survey and Recording (JRS) 18 June 2017.
