Sbc Note

Airplane wreck site Excavated in 2009 by Air Crash Investigation and Archaeology. Plane was an Avro Anson, serial no. NK945. Flight left RAF Kinloss with 3 on 1 February 1945 heading south to Castle Bromwich, Birmingham. The plane hit a snow storm in the Borders and turned back, but crashed at Windy Cleugh on Turf Law. Bodies and some wreckage removed on 7 February 1945 to RAF Drem, East Lothian.

6 trenches, 3m square, excavated revealing burnt wreckage.
