Activities

Field Visit (22 April 2002)

A group of at least nine rock shelters, five huts, seven pens and one enclosure are clustered among boulders at least 60m S of an unnamed lochan and 55m N of another similar group (see NM48NE 53).

The rock shelters (924, 929-30, 933-35, 939, and 959-60) have been built of short lengths of drystone walling against and between overhanging boulders, creating a space that measures up to 6m by 2.4m within a wall 1.1m in thickness and 0.6m high. Six examples (924, 929, 933, 934, 939 and 959) contain midden material that includes whelk and limpet shell and one (939) has a rough enclosure attached to its S side.

The huts (925-7, 931, 937) are sub-rectangular or oval and the largest measures 4.3m by 1.9m within a rubble wall 0.7m in thickness and 0.5m in height. Each of the small pens (925, 928, 932, 936, 938, 940) have been set against large boulders.
