(NO 5312 9974) Lady's Well (NAT)

OS 6" map, (1959)

There was a well of Our Lady in Aboyne parish.

H Scott et al 1915-61.

Lady's Well has borne this name for more than a century. It is said that the lady of the Castle (NO59NW 5) often visited the well, the water of which was beneficial to her health, hence the name.

Name Book 1865.

A natural spring (now overgrown with vegetation) lined with rough stones to form a rectangular 'trough' measuring 1.3m NE-SW by 0.6m. The NE end is covered by a flat slab.

Visited by OS (ISS) 13 July 1972.
