Activities

Field Visit (20 October 2016)

All that is now visible of this hut, which was designated ‘Hut 7’ and used to accommodate men in the eastern compound at the battery, is the front of the terrace on which it and its close neighbour to the ESE (Hut 8) stood. Contemporary vertical aerial photographs and site-plans contained within the Fort Record Book (National Archives: WO 192/113) indicate that this timber building was rectangular on plan with a pitched roof and measured about 10m in length from ENE to WSW by 5m in breadth. The depiction of pathways on one of the plans suggests that the building had a doorway in both ends.

Visited by HES Survey and Recording (JRS, AK, AMcC) 20 October 2016.
