Activities

Field Visit (20 October 2016)

Toward coastal battery included an emplacement of two gun-houses of near identical design, both containing a 4.7-inch ex-naval gun and both eventually undergoing several periods of modification. No. 2 gun-house is the easterly of the two, standing just 17m ENE of No. 1, (NS16NW 16.02). In all major respects its description is the same as No. 1 gun-house, the only major differences being that the remains of the front of the first-phase circular gun-pit are not visible in front of the present structure and because of the amount of rubble and other detritus presently within the gun-house, nothing of the pit that once contained the holdfast is visible.

Visited by HES Survey and Recording (JRS, AK, AMcC) 20 October 2016.
