Activities

Field Visit (22 April 2002)

The remains of five buildings, an enclosure and fragments of a field system survive immediately to the SE of Sandavore farmhouse (NM48SE 43), and immediately to the SE of Sandavore farmsteading (NM48SE 43.01). The buildings, clearly of an earlier date than those currently in use, are presumably remains of an earlier township.

At NM 47896 84675 there are three rectangular buildings, the largest of which (EIGG01 1030) measures 7.8m from N to S by 3.1m transversely within a grass-grown stony bank 1m in thickness and 0.3m in height. Immediately to its W there is a midden hollow, and two smaller buildings stand immediately to the S (EIGG01 1031, 1033). The group stands at the NE corner of a yard, which has a small enclosure attached at the SSW (EIGG01 1032).

Some 112m to the SSW of (1030) there is a fourth rectangular building which measures 9m from ESE to WNW by 3.5m transversely within a drystone rubble wall 0.8m in thickness and 0.4m in height (1034). A fifth building stands 16m to the E.

(EIGG01 1030-5).
