Activities

Watching Brief (13 November 2013 - 24 March 2014)

HY 31426 17892 – HY 31011 17722 A watching brief was undertaken, 13 November 2013 – 24 March 2014, during the renewal of water mains in the vicinity of St Michael’s Church. The work uncovered a flagstone structure, a possible enclosure ditch and a number deposits likely to represent buried soil horizons and midden deposits, all of which are likely to be prehistoric in date. It is probable that these are related to the adjacent broch site which lies beneath St Michael’s church yard. A rubble field drain, probably post-medieval in date, was also exposed.
