Desk Based Assessment (27 June 2016)
Nothing now remains of this shipbuilding yard as it is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1858, Sheet V). It comprised a roughly square area, measuring 2.4ha in extent between the former Clyde Street and the north bank of the River Clyde, containing a small inlet/dock, a crane and several buildings, including a long range running parallel and adjacent to Clyde Street with wings at the E and W ends projecting part of the way along the sides of the yard. It is not clear what the association was between the yard and the building, probably a dwelling, and a garden which occupied its SW corner. The 2nd edition of the map shows that by the 1890s the site may have changed use as one of the buildings is annotated ‘Hydraulic Foundry’ (Lanarkshire 1898, Sheet V.NE). Since then, the dock has been filled in and the site is now occupied by more recent constructions.
