Activities

Desk Based Assessment (21 June 2016)

The revised OS 25-inch map (Lanark 1911, Sheets 032.07) depicts a ‘water house’ standing on the right (west) bank of the River Clyde 30m north of its confluence with the Douglas Water. The structure probably combined the function of gathering and storing water prior to it being pumped elsewhere, most likely to Harperfield steading (NS83NE 6) some 350m uphill to the WNW. The site was not visited during the RCAHMS/HES Connected with the Clyde project in 2015 but vertical aerial photography appears to indicate that remains of the building still survive.

Information from HES Survey and Recording (JRS) 21 June 2016.
