Archaeology Notes

NO56SE 7 c553 616

(Area: NO 553 616). Bronze socketed axe with loop - locus not known.

OS 6" map annotated by F A Ferguson, amateur archaeologist, to Ordnance Survey, January 1954.

This is presumably a mistaken reference to the Class III flanged axe and bronze dagger, reputedly part of a hoard of bronzes found at Findowie, owned by W B Carnegy-Arbuthnott, on loan to Brechin Museum. Dated to Glentrool phase.

Dirk with trapezoidal butt, slender blade and two rivet-holes. Length 17.1cm, width 5.4cm.
