Activities

Desk Based Assessment (7 June 2016)

Nothing is now visible in the River Clyde of a beacon or marker that indicated the southern edge of the deep-water channel and is depicted on an 1846 chart of the river (Dumbarton to Glasgow), published by the Hydrographic Office in 1850 (NLS Admiralty Chart 2007). The beacon, which stood on the north side of the island, is not depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Renfrewshire 1864, Sheet VIII).

Information from HES Survey and Recording (JRS) 7 June 2016.
