Activities

Desk Based Assessment (16 June 2016)

This footings of the original beacon here stand on the vestiges of the Lang Dyke (NS47SW 169) and are surmounded by a beacon of more recent construction. The beacon, which marked the southern edge of the deep-water channel SSW of Dumbuck House, is depicted on an 1846 chart of the river (Dumbarton to Glasgow), published by the Hydrographic Office in 1850 (NLS Admiralty Chart 2007) and the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Dumbartonshire 1864, Sheet XXII).

Information from HES Survey and Recording (JRS) 8 June 2016.
