This navigation aid is situated at the junction of the east side of the deep water channel of the River Leven and the north side of the deep water channel of the River Clyde. It is depicted on an 1846 chart of the river (Greenock to Dumbarton), published by the Hydrographic Office in 1850 (NLS: MS.5846/50-- Admiralty Chart 2006) and remains in use. It comprises a stone foundation measuring about 10m in diameter upon which the light is situated.
