Field Visit (June 1979)

Steam Trawler Alex Hastings of Aberdeen wrecked on Holms of Ire 1939 without loss of life. Information Mr Stout, Airon. Remains are scattered over wave-cut platform and are dry at low tide, comprising: Scotch boiler, intact. Triple-expansion engine block, stroke c. 0.8m, cylinders hp 0.4m, ip 0.55m, lp 0.85m diameter, lying with stern tube and broken iron propeller (not in original position related to engine). Engine bed and most of shaft lying in a geo some 20m seaward. Steam winch. Of the hull only a few buckled girders and plates remain.
