(NO 5026 5478) Carsegownie (NAT)

OS 6" map, (1969)

Carsegopwnie House was fortified, but has been divested in a great measure of its stronghold appearance by the enlargement of its once loop-holed windows.

New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845.

Carsegownie..."was a castellated building of comparatively small extent"...it has recently been modernised. The estate was possessed by the Kydds at the beginning of the 17th century, and by the Campbells in 1684-5.

A J Warden 1880-5.

The farm-house of Carsegownie is entirely modern; but bears an inserted armorial panel over the entrance doorway. This panel bears the date '1680' and the initials of the Campbell family at that time.

Visited by OS (JLD) 21 August 1958.
