Activities

Field Visit (1999)

By 1938 sand was being quarried from the north-east section of this area of the park. By 1958 the sand quarry extended to within approximately 220m of Newhailes House. This pit was then used as a refuse tip from 1965 until 1977, since when the land has been restored, grazed and four permanent gas standpipes installed to deal with methane emissions from the refuse.
