Field Visit (16 December 2014)
A 120m length of the north bank of the river Clyde 270m south of Symington Mains is heavily reinforced with concrete shuttering and railway sleepers, originally placed across the mouth of a secondary channel of the river in order to reclaim the land behind it. This secondary channel is depicted on the OS One-inch Popular Edition, Sheet 79 – Lanark, published in 1926. Some parts of the reinforcing have been washed away.
Visited by RCAHMS (GLB, AMcC) 16 December 2014.
