NO55SW 12 5044 5075.
NO 5044 5075. On the highest point of Hag Brae is a small circular hollowed-out area with the suggestion of a stony bank surrounding it. The structure, said by Warden (1880-5) to be similar to that on Rob's Reed (NO45SE 30 - Dun), is 8.2m in diameter and the bank, which is c.3.0m broad, is 1.2m high on the north scarp where the ground falls naturally to the north. Elsewhere it is only c.0.2m maximum height. The hollow is 1.0m deep.
The interior is partially filled with small flattish stones with a few small boulders.
The structure is too small for a dun, and has the appearance of simply being a quarry - unless the encircling bank can be proved to be a wall.
A J Warden 1880-5; Visited by OS (JLD) 26 August 1958.
