Field Visit (14 May 2015)

This redundant Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar stands on the summit of the Brae of Moan immediately east of an early 19th century stone wall. The concrete pillar measures 0.63m square at the base, tapering to a flat top 0.38m square at a height of 1.17m. On the top, the brass base-plate for housing a theodolite is still in place, as are the three retaining hoops, and set into the south face of the pillar is a flush bracket bearing the legend ‘OS BM 10647’.
