Activities

Field Visit (21 August 2014)

There are two concretes piers at the Haven, on the east coast of Swona close to its northern tip. The inner pier (ND 39235 85028) is reached from the rocky beach and was served by a capstan at the head of the beach and a boathouse (see ND38NE 13). The outer pier (ND 39288 35039) is reached via a set of concrete steps. Both piers were probably constructed around 1907 by the Congested Districts Board (The National Archives of Scotland: AF42/3267; The National Archive: MT 10/1144/11).

A winch stands at the head of the inlet, 50m west of the inner pier.
